Olivia Meyer
30:30
Is there anything we can do to prepare for the second phase before it starts?
Annalea (NRF Foundation)
31:19
Students who advance to the second phase of the competition will be given time to review the case study, gather questions and meet directly with the Nordstrom team who created the case - we always recommend that those students take the time to prepare for that opportunity by researching the case topic and thinking through questions!
Jashua Rojas
32:21
What does it mean to be socially responsible in the retail industry? Are socioeconmocial factors included in this “lens of social responsibility”, and are we able to address them in our work?
Olivia Meyer
32:59
Thank you!! Obviously, the second phase is a large time commitment. I was wondering how many hours/week each student spent during the second part of the project ?
sheryl marcus
33:30
Students would benefit from all of you discussing how you managed your time, especially for Phase 2.
Annalea (NRF Foundation)
33:53
That is a great question to research, Jashua! I would also recommend reaching out to professors as part of your research to get insights on if that is something you want to include in your work - the essay is your opportunity to apply your own perspective and lens to the topic.
Aran Glynn
34:06
Are any statistics available for the number of students who apply each year?
Annalea (NRF Foundation)

We typically see over 100 applicants each year for this competition

Olivia Meyer
39:27
What exactly does a “case study” entail?
Jashua Rojas
40:20
Are you able to explore the manufacturing methods of a retailer?
Olivia Meyer
41:16
I’m sure you can’t discuss the prompt, but what can we expect?
Annalea (NRF Foundation)
41:19
The Nordstrom case study will task the 25 semifinalists with researching and presenting a solution to a current challenge the company is facing. It will involve elements of competitive analysis research, strategy development, marketing, and financials
Annalea (NRF Foundation)
41:34
It will be approximately a 10 page report
Olivia Meyer
42:12
thank you!
sheryl marcus
48:52
So interesting as RETAIL is defined as the sale of ANY product or service. Well said.
Adele Moore
50:34
Could people give examples of how their passion(s) shaped their case study/paper and how they feel their passion made their submissions more powerful? What feedback did you get from retailers regarding passion and branding?
sheryl marcus
52:20
Is the 10 pages for Nordstrom more essay format or more similar to The Student Challenge pitch deck?
Annalea (NRF Foundation)
52:48
The case study is closer to a report-style document, with visuals incorporated but primarily focused on the text
Jashua Rojas
56:31
I love that question
Adele Moore
